PlainSing

PlainSing is being set up to perform the beautiful and ancient plainsong melodies some of which date back as far as the 6 th century. Although the chant is a part of the Catholic rite, it can be appreciated by all who love beautiful music – just as polyphony is. This choir will be open to people of all faiths or none, and to both men and women. We will study the square notation originally used for chant, but no prior knowledge of this notation is required.
You can download a guide (pdf) to the notation here. and how to read plainsong here

The choir will take part in this year's festival singing Compline at midnight on October 24th in St Bartholomew's Church. This will also form part of the city wide White Night Festival which lasts all night!
