Heide Hughes she always sings
How I started singing
I grew up in Germany in a very musical family. My father was a conductor and I often was allowed to accompany him to orchestral and choral rehearsals, and then of course to the concerts afterwards, which I enjoyed enormously.
We were four children, learned the recorder from an early age and sang musical rounds while doing household chores etc, for as long as I can remember. I joined every choir that was going at school and as soon as I was old enough to join my father's choir, I did and loved every minute of it.
When I moved to England, I joined our local village choir, but soon went for an audition with the Brighton Festival Chorus, for much more demanding choral singing, which gave me fantastic enjoyment for 38 years.

However, singing major classical works with such a big choir made me want to sing again in a smaller group and the Brighton Consort with its repertoire of early music was just the thing and I have enjoyed singing with them and the Early Music Festival for a long time now.
Why I love it

I just love singing, it cheers me up and makes me happy. Often, after a long day's work, when feeling exhausted, I find that only a few minutes into the rehearsal I feel revived.

I still sing around the house and many years ago, when my small son had a friend to stay, I overheard a converstion between the two boys.
Friend: "Why does your mother sing?"
Dieter: "I don't know, she always sings"
