VENI REDEMPTOR GENTIUM!
Saturday 2nd December 6pm
BCV’s annual Advent concert this year continues the festival’s ROOTS theme by exploring the
fascinating evolution of a beautiful plainsong melody. Veni Redemptor gentium is an Advent hymn composed by
St Ambrose of Milan during the Fourth century. More than a thousand years later Martin Luther translated it
into German as the chorale, Nun komm der Heiden Heiland. In this programme BCV is joined by the Sussex Waits
to explore some of the colourful arrangements of this immortal hymn along with other motets and instrumental
dances from the German speaking Holy Roman Empire.
